Rain and Poetry

Original: Male Matthu Kavithe by Kotresh Arasikere

Translation by: Prof. Ramaprasad B V

Each rain

has a name

each rain

is a poem.

How many names

for poems!

Sometimes rain cuddles,

sometimes cantankerous,

it irritates,

uncomprehendingly pouring down.

Simple like a child,

sometimes scanty

sometimes bounty.

Simply get drenched

in adoration

till comprehension dawns

sometimes comprehending.

Every time it pours,

it infatuates.

a drizzle or a downpour,

even when boring

teaches humble living.

What a good poet

This rain is!

Every time it pours

it amazes, and

gifts a new poem, and

nurtures like mother.
